  31. Actually this was the reason that I responded at all to Carrera postings =
  32. in the first place.   There are organizations that want the fastest =
  33. single computers that their money can buy. In this business "time is =
  34. money".  =20

  36. DeskStation's recent announcement that they will shortly be shipping a =
  37. 21164A DEC processor rated by DEC at 366 MHz means they will shortly =
  38. have the fastest offering on the market. I also contend that =
  39. DeskStation's design allows for faster upgrades to the customer.=20

  41. Carrera's responses on this list implied that they to have a system that =
  42. competes at this rating. If this was unintentional on their part, or I =
  43. took out of context what they posted,  I gladly apologize publicly to =
  44. the people at Carrera.   Unless I am mistaken they do not have a systems =
  45. at this rating.  I contend that Carrera will have to redesign their =
  46. mother board in order to take advantage of the new family of =
  47. microprocessors from DEC.   Not a terrible thing.  I think Carrera is =
  48. very capable of doing this and will have a system at this rating in the =
  49. next six to nine months.

  51. I happen to like CPU war's ( by the way the real war is between Intel =
  52. and DEC. Any bets?).  I'm a typical male,  I like saying that mine are =
  53. bigger :)  I think that DeskStation has the right to claim bragging =
  54. rights for awhile.  How many of you would give your eye teeth to have a =
  55. Carrera or DeskStation system sitting in your bedroom running LightWave. =
  56. Competition is always good in a free market economy. The informed =
  57. consumer is always the winner.=20

  59. If you think the level of conflict is high in this discussion, go check =
  60. out the book on Nicholas Tesla (sp?).  In that book they discuss the  AC =
  61. - DC wars between Thomas Edision and Westinghouse (George, I think).   =
  62. Hell, they use to electrocute animals to prove that Alternating current =
  63. (AC) was bad.  AC won. By the way I am not suggesting that we should =
  64. start electricuting our competition, but it might be possible to fry =
  65. them on the CPU's :)  I think I smell smoke.

  70. The DEC Alpha is an excellent purchase for any user to consider, whether =
  71. purchased from Carrera or a DeskStation dealer.=20
